The American Cricket Society (ACS) suffered a heavy nine-wicket defeat at the hands of West Berbice Rising Stars when match eight of their Goodwill Tour of Guyana went down at Bush Lot West Coast Berbice on Saturday.
A blazing century from Kevin Sinclair completely overshadowed a respectable ACS batting effort on an uneven outfield.
Batting first after West Berbice Rising Stars opted to field, ACS posted a competitive 231 all out in their allotted 30 overs.
The visitors were given a solid platform by wicketkeeper-batsman Kevon Boodie, who struck an enterprising 72 off 58 balls, laced with five fours and four sixes. He found useful support from Chatram Balgobin (31) and Raymond Perez (27), while captain Akeem Dewar chipped in with a brisk 29 towards the back end.
However, despite several starts, ACS failed to string together any major partnerships, losing wickets at regular intervals after being firmly in control at 125 for 1.
West Berbice’s bowlers stuck to their plan with Sinclair (2-20) and Justin Doobay (2-38) leading the effort, while Nigel Deodat and Ayinde Rogers had one a piece.
In reply, the Rising Stars made a mockery of the chase, racing to 233 for 1 in just 18.1 overs in a display of sheer Sinclair dominance.
The 26 year-old was the chief destroyer, lacing a sensational unbeaten 157 from just 53 balls, an innings that included 15 fours and a staggering 14 sixes.
His assault dismantled the ACS’s 9-man bowling attack and effectively ended the contest long before the halfway stage of the chase.
After the early loss of Leon Andrews for 13, Sinclair combined with Rashaad Gaffur, who played the perfect supporting role with an unbeaten 52, to ensure there were no further hiccups as the pair added an unbroken partnership that sealed the emphatic victory.
ACS bowlers struggled for control throughout the innings, with only Bhaskar Yadram managing a breakthrough, while the rest of the attack was taken apart by Sinclair’s relentless stroke play.
The result leaves ACS with an even record of four wins and four losses on the tour, as the visitors continue to experience a mixed campaign against local opposition.
The Goodwill Tour will culminate on Saturday when ACS face Police Sports Club at Lusignan, where they will be aiming to finish on a winning note.
