The first international softball tournament for 2026 is the Florida Cup which will be held in the Sunshine State from March 27 to 29. Organized by the South Florida Softball Cricket League (SFSCL), the tournament will feature the three familiar categories: Open (All-Stars), Masters (Over-40) and Legends (Over-50).
The undisputed Legends champions of Guyana, Regal Legends will once again represent the Golden Arrowhead on the international scene looking for more success. Under the leadership of new captain, David Harper the Campbellville-based unit will look to recapture the coveted Florida Cup which they first won in 2016 when on their maiden trip out of Guyana.
This year marks the 10th anniversary for the Regal side touring the Sunshine State which can be considered a familiar hunting ground.
On the opening day, Regal Legends will take on USA Legends at 09:30 Hrs followed by Sunshine State Cricket Association (SSCA) Legends at 13:30 Hrs. Their final preliminary round match will be on Saturday morning against Ocala Legends. The semi-final is set for Saturday afternoon before the grand final on Sunday morning.
New captain, David Harper, says he loves challenges and welcomes the opportunity to lead an experienced side over three days of hard work. “It will be three tough days but we had some preparation time [in Guyana] before this trip. Our batters look the part and our bowlers are superb, so we are ready to execute. We will play hard and hope for luck goes in our favour,” jokes Harper.
The former Guyana First Class player has been with Regal for more than 10 years but is now given the role of captain. “I don’t want to be overconfident. We will take it one game at a time, and I am sure we will win,” stated the skipper. Regal Legends missed out in the last edition of the Florida Cup when they joined forces with NY Hustlers in 2025 while they last won the crown in 2023.
In the Florida Cup this season, the Legends Category is the most crowded with 12 teams drawn in two groups while the Masters Category will see six teams battling it out. Only four All-Stars teams have registered for the 3-day extravaganza which opens the 2026 international season.
At the end of June, the action will switch to New York City for the Independence Cup followed by the highly anticipated Prime Minister’s Cup in Guyana in October. The season finale is the Vice President’s Cup in November.
