Corporate Guyana has answered the call for greater support for local club cricket, with NEL Global Security Company Inc. (NGSC) donating a significant quantity of cricket equipment to two organisations last Thursday.
Tucber Park Cricket Club in New Amsterdam, Berbice, and the East Bank Cricket Association (EBCA) in Demerara were the beneficiaries of the donation, which is expected to provide a major boost to their youth and senior cricket programmes.
The presentation was made by NGSC’s Administrative and Human Resources Manager, Damali Brutus, on behalf of the company, which has been operating from Gordon Street, Kitty, since 2021.
Brutus said the leading security service provider, which upholds international best practices and is committed to ISO 9001:2015 quality management standards, was pleased to give back to the sporting community.
“As part of our corporate social responsibility, we believe in giving back and are committed to promoting community cohesion. Hopefully, through initiatives like this, we can reach and inspire young people who are waiting for an opportunity to pursue a career in the sport. With this opportunity to give back, we want to inspire the next generation of great cricketers for Guyana and the West Indies,” Brutus said.
The donation included bats, helmets, batting gloves and pads, wicketkeeping pads and gloves, cricket balls, stumps, protective guards, scorebooks and equipment bags to facilitate easy transportation.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, EBCA President Puneet Jaigopaul expressed gratitude to NGSC for its timely contribution.
Jaigopaul explained that the equipment would be particularly beneficial to the Association’s Under-13 and Under-15 players, who train at the Farm Cricket Club but currently lack access to the necessary gear.
He added that the donation would also benefit the wider EBCA as it prepares for the upcoming Demerara Cricket Board Inter-Association tournaments.
“This donation is timely and will go a long way in assisting our young cricketers, while also strengthening our overall preparation for the upcoming competitions,” Jaigopaul said.
