At Enmore, GCB Selext XI took first strike and were dismissed for 204 in 39 overs. They struggled initially but a brilliant innings of 77 from 71 deliveries from Vice-captain, Christopher Barnwell pushed them past that 200 mark. Skipper Junior Sinclair provided some entertainment for the spectators as he blasted 32 in just 20 balls inclusive of 5 humongous sixes. Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed once again led the way with the ball for Demerara as he picked up 3-44.
In response, West Indies Test Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul narrowly missed out on the first century of the tournament as he registered another unbeaten half-century to lead Demerara to a relatively easy 7-wicket victory over the GCB Select XI at Enmore. The young “Tiger” finished on 93* from 126 balls and his composure and sublime shot selection ensured that Demerara were always above the required run rate.
He shared a healthy 2nd wicket partnership of 83 with Mavindra Dindyal who looked fluent in his knock of 43. A 4th wicket partnership of 68 between Chanderpaul and Akshaya Persaud then sealed victory for Demerara with within 42 overs.
