n a rain affected game at GCC, Berbice overcame Essequibo by 17 runs via the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern (DLS) Method.
Batting first, Berbice were put under pressure early on as they lost their top 3 with just 15 on the board. Shimron Hetmyer joined Kevlon Anderson and took the score to 45 before he was bowled by Quentin Sampson for 23. Romario Shepherd didn’t last long as Berbice slumped to 45-5. A 25-ball 32 from Gudakesh Motie along with support from the lower order pushed Berbice’s score to 170 before the rains came and ended their innings prematurely. Anderson finished 57 with 8 fours. Quentin Sampson was the pick of the bowlers for Essequibo with 4 wickets while Antony Adams picked up 2 wickets.
When the rains ceased, Essequibo were set a target of 133 from 29 overs. They made it look very difficult. Up against the Berbice pace attack, they struggled to handle the pace and accuracy of Romario Shepherd who dismissed the first four batsmen for single digit scores. Only Kemol Savory offered some resistance with a top score of 32 as Essequibo continued to lose wickets regularly and eventually fell 17 runs short. Romario Shepherd finished with figures of 4-11 while Joseph picked up 2-16.
