The One Guyana T10 Blast was officially launched on Saturday, June 17 at the RS53 Resto Bar and Lounge at Amazonia Mall.
The tapeball competition is organized around the theme of “One Guyana” and its aim is to develop the sport and promote unity.
The tournament will feature 32 teams from across the country and will be played over two (2) days. The winning team will get $1M, the biggest prize money at stake for any tapeball tournament locally.
At the impressive launch; Kares Engineering, through their General Manager, Natasha Persaud handed over a sponsorship cheque to the tune of $3M becoming the official title sponsor. Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Kashif Muhammad challenged the organizers to set up an official body for tapeball in Guyana while giving the commission’s firm support for the initiative which he opined will only get bigger.
Former national cricketer, Steven Jacobs stressed the importance of playing such form of cricket which he stated is very familiar to many international stars around the world.
Format of the tournament: One game knockout
Each match will be 10 overs per side
Each team will have 10 players
Day 1: Knockout matches at Queen’s College, Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Ground, Base Camp Ayanganna.
Day 2: 2 Semifinals, an Exhibition match and Championship match.
Exhibition match: Expected players – President of Guyana His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali; Former West Indies Captain, Ramnaresh Sarwan, and Former National Players, Steven Jacobs and Lennox Cush.
