A spirited bowling effort from the Guyana Harpy Eagles bowlers and a disappointing collapse from the Windward Islands Volcanoes gave the Harpy Eagles a 10-run victory over the Volcanoes at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy Ground yesterday.
Asked to bat first, the Harpy eagles managed to post 229-9 in their allocation of 50 overs thanks to contributions from Kevin Sinclair (41), Tevin Imlach (41), Tagenarine Chanderpaul (29) and a 19-ball cameo of 29 from Gudakesh Motie. Ryan John was the main destroyer at the start of the innings and at the end picking up 4-60 from his 10 overs. He got support from Shadrack Descarte who picked up 2 wickets.
In reply, Volcanoes got off to a flying start as Alick Athanaze showed his class and innovation during his innings of 75 off just 55 balls. His innings included 11 fours and 2 sixes and placed immense pressure on the Harpy Eagles seamers. When spin was introduced, the rate of scoring dropped and it triggered a middle order collapse. Skipper Andre Fletcher (52*) batting at 6 held the innings together and his partnership of 52 with Shamar Springer steadied the run chase. With just 34 needed and 4 wickets in hand, the seamers were reintroduced and they swung the game back in favour of the Eagles taking 3 wickets to leave the Volcanoes at 217-9. The final wicket fell an over later when Shermon Lewis was runout by Sherfane Rutherford.

At the Queen’s Park Oval, the match between Combined Campuses and Colleges and Trinidad and Tobago Red Force was abandoned due to continuous rainfall. CCC won the toss and chose to field first. They removed Tion Webster very early with the score on 6 but a solid 60-run partnership ensued between Kjorn Ottley and wicket-keeper Joshua DaSilva. Ottley was dismissed in the 11th over and skipper Darren Bravo joined DaSilva. They took the score to 92 before DaSilva was caught for 48. Bravo, along with Jason Mohammed put on 88 with the latter contributing 43. When the innings was completed after 44 overs, Bravo (81*) and Yannic Cariah (31*) had taken the total up to 246-4.
In reply, Johann Jeremiah and Kadeem Alleyne together hit 8 fours and a six to give CCC a rollicking start. Each batter scored freely as they took the team score to 53 without loss in the 7th over. It was at this point that the rains came once again and there was no further play.
