Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie with a maiden List-A five-wicket haul combined with Kevin Sinclair, Veerasammy Permaul and Kevlon Anderson to bowl out Barbados Pride for 146 to give the Harpy Eagles their third victory after 5 matches in the CG United Super50 match at St Augustine on Sunday.
Motie grabbed career best figures of 5 for 17 from 9.5 overs while off-spinner Sinclair picked up 3 for 50, captain Permaul had 1 for 32 and Anderson 1 for 24 sharing all 10 wickets after sending down 35.5 of the 39.5 overs bowled. Debutant pacer Shamar Joseph conceded 20 runs from three overs with a new ball and Nial Smith who went for 18 from his solitary over where the other bowlers used.
Set a target of 203 from 47 overs, the Pride were stifled by the spin quartet falling 56 runs short with opener Kyle Mayers stroking 64 and Roston Chase getting 25.
Earlier, the Harpy Eagles were asked to bat first with a new opening pair; the recalled Chandrapaul Hemraj and Kevlon Anderson replacing out of form Tajenarine Chanderpaul and Kemol Savory. Hemraj was first to go and in the 23rd over the Eagles were 67-5. Sherfane Rutherford then combined with Savory (35) to put on 54 for the 6th wicket after which Motie hung around for 19 balls (7) while Rutherford took the attack to the Barbadian bowlers in a partnership of 63 in 9 overs. Rutherford was dismissed for 74 (70b; 4x4s; 4x6s) by Javed Leacock who along with Raymon Reifer picked up 3 wickets each to dismiss the Harpy Eagles for 202 with 3 balls still to be bowled in their allotment of 47 overs.
The Harpy Eagles are now in fifth position with 23 points behind Red Force (37), Pride (36), Hurricanes (35) and CCC (27). The Eagles next match is on Wednesday at the same venue against 6th placed WI Academy also on 23 points. Volcanoes 17 points and defending champions Scorpions 5 points are the other teams in the tournament. Pride’s next match is on Tuesday against CCC also at the college campus ground in St Augustine.
