Teenage sensation, Realeanna Grimmond crowned a memorable day with bat and ball to hand Berbice a comprehensive opening round victory in the Guyana Cricket Board’s Female Under-19 Inter-County Tournament.
Grimmond joined forces with Tia Issac at the top of the order to srt up the 8-wicket victory over Essequibo at Port Mourant on Thursday. Berbice reached 109 for 2 (11.2) after bowling out the girls from the Cinderella county for just 108 (20). Grimmond top scored with 37 not out (31 b; 4×4; 1×6) while Tia Issac hit 22 in the opening stand of 76. Captain Ashmini Munisar ended on 13 not out when victory was achieved. Bowling for Essequibo, Lavinda Ragobeer (2-28) picked up both wickets to fall. Earlier, Berbice won the toss and opted to bowl with Grimmond (3-19) and again Isaac (2-22) routing the visitors. Crystal Durant (2-16), Munisar (1/9) and Danieli Mann (1/23) were also in the wickets column with only Essequibo opener Laurene Williams (20) getting into double figures. Round 2 set for Friday, June 9, with Demerara taking on Essequibo from 09:30 Hrs followed by round three with Berbice versus Demarara from 14:00 Hrs at Port Mourant.
