Berbice made light work of Essequibo in the opening round of the GCB Under-17 Inter-County Super50 Tournament played at Port Mourant today.
Essequibo won the toss and chose to bat first. They had an opening stand of 31 but collapsed dramatically to 59 all out in 34.3 overs. In an innings where five batters made zero, Essequibo lost 6 wickets with the score on 34. Matthew Pottoya led the collapse with 4-7 off 9 overs and was well supported by Salim Khan 2-8 and Sanjay Algoo 2-9.
In reply, Berbice easily got to their target of 60 without losing any wickets in just 7.5 overs. National under-17 wicketkeeper batsman Kevin Kisten made a quick-fire 36 off just 26 balls and was supported by Rampersaud Ramnauth with 17 off 21 balls.
The GCB Under-17 Inter-County Super50 Tournament will continue tomorrow with Berbice playing the GCB Select XI at Port Mourant from 09:30 hrs.
