Berbice defeated the GCB Select XI and picked up their second victory of the GCB Under-17 Inter-County Super50 Tournament at Port Mourant today.
Due to overnight showers, there was a delayed start and the match was reduced to 29 overs.
After being asked to bat first, Berbice posted a mammoth 264-3 in their 29 overs. Ari Afrizal Kadir led the way with 72 not out which included 9 fours and 4 sixes. He was supported with half centuries by Rampersaud Ramnauth (63) and Kevin Kisten (54) who combined in an opening partnership of 107. Sanjay Algoo then displayed his finishing skills by hitting the ball to all parts and scoring 45 in just 19 balls. His partnership of 91 with Kadir came off 37 balls and flattened the Select XI bowling attack.
In reply, Select XI were bowled out for 80 in 22.5 overs. Shiloh Adams top-scored with 23 but only two other batters got to double figures. Berbice’s bowling was led by Sanjay Algoo who took 3-6 in 3 overs.
The GCB Under-17 Inter-County Super50 Tournament will continue tomorrow with Demerara playing Essequibo at Everest from 09:30 hrs.
