Everest Masters Cricket Team produced a dominant batting display to defeat Essequibo Rising Stars O40 by five wickets in a specially organized encounter held in honour of Rohit Latchman’s birthday. The celebratory atmosphere was matched by an entertaining contest, but it was Everest’s explosive opening stand that ultimately took the game away from the hosts.
Batting first, Essequibo Rising Stars Over 40 posted a competitive 190-9 from their allotted 25 overs. Rohit Latchman led the charge at the top with a fluent 35 off 25 balls, striking four fours and two sixes, while Kurty Jones contributed 25. Devon Ramnauth injected late impetus with a brisk 31 from 19 deliveries, and Husbard Thomas finished strongly with an unbeaten 22 off 15 balls. Extras, however, played a significant role, with 31 added to the total, including 26 wides.
Lookeshwar Mahabeer (3-37) and Richard Chaturia (3-16) were the chief destroyers for Everest, pulling things back effectively in the latter stages to restrict Essequibo O40 from pushing beyond the 200-run mark.
In reply, Everest Masters made a mockery of the target, racing to 191-5 in just 16.5 overs at a blistering run rate of 11.35. The foundation was laid by a breathtaking 99-run opening partnership between Sahadeo Hardaiow and Antonnel Atwell — a stand that effectively sealed the contest inside the Powerplay.
Atwell was particularly destructive, smashing 62 from just 28 balls, including ten fours and three sixes, while Hardaiow hammered 61 off 32 deliveries with three fours and six towering sixes. Their aggressive strokeplay dismantled the Essequibo bowling attack and shifted the momentum decisively in Everest’s favour.
Though Essequibo managed to pick up wickets through Yogeshwar Lall (1-18) and Devon Ramnauth (2-21), the damage had already been done. Vishan Lall calmly guided the chase to completion with an unbeaten 32, ensuring Everest crossed the line with more than eight overs to spare.
All trophies were generously sponsored by Trophy Stall, adding a fitting touch to a well-organized and spirited cricket celebration.
