Neiland Cadogan produced a match-winning all-round performance to steer Reliance Hustlers Sports Club (RHSC) to a tense four-wicket victory over IIS Challengers Cricket Club in the final of the North Essequibo Cricket Committee’s (NECC) Jairam Bissessar T20 Competition.
The action unfolded at the impressive Joe Jagmohan Ground in Hampton Court on Sunday afternoon.
Cadogan was the central figure throughout the contest, claiming an outstanding 3 for 10 with the ball before returning to play a calm and decisive innings of 17 not out, guiding his side home under pressure on an even paced track and fast outfield.
After winning the toss and opting to field, Reliance Hustlers immediately applied pressure on the IIS Challengers batting unit. The innings was repeatedly disrupted by sharp fielding, with four run-outs highlighting Hustlers’ discipline and intensity in the field.
IIS Challengers were eventually dismissed for 115 in 18.2 overs, with a fighting knock of 42 from 34 balls coming from Trivel Evans and a brisk 23 off 16 deliveries from Gladwin Henry. Cadogan’s incisive spell broke the backbone of the middle order, as he removed Evans, Brian Mangar and Darius Pearson, limiting the Challengers to a below-par score.
In response, visitors endured an uneasy start and found themselves in early trouble at 57 for 5, with Seon Venture producing an impressive three-wicket haul to keep the contest evenly poised.
At that critical stage, Cadogan joined forces with the in-form Eknauth Persaud, and the pair constructed a vital 51-run partnership that swung momentum decisively. Persaud took the aggressive role, striking 38 from 24 balls with six boundaries, while Cadogan anchored the innings with composure and sound judgment.
Even after Persaud’s dismissal at 108 for 6, the final remained in the balance. Cadogan, however, showed remarkable calm, remaining unbeaten and guiding the Hustlers safely to 117 for 6 in 19.1 overs, with Bernard Lewis providing late support.
The victory crowned Reliance Hustlers Sports Club champions of the 2025 edition, with Cadogan’s influence with both bat and ball proving the decisive difference on the day.
The 11-team tournament was sponsored by MJs Construction and Jagdesh Duck Curry Restaurant and Bar of Lima, Essequibo Coast.
At the presentation ceremony, Golcharran Chulai was honoured with the Emerging Player Award, recognizing his consistent performances and impact throughout the tournament.
