An exceptional innings from Sherfane Rutherford ensured that the Harpy Eagles chase down their target of 245 with 15 balls to spare. In his unbeaten knock of 105, he faced 71 balls and hammered 8 sixes to complement his 7 fours.
Batting first at Queen’s Park Oval, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes posted 244-6 in their 50 overs. Jahmar Hamilton and Karima Gore had identical scores of 54 while Hayden Walsh perished 1 short of his half-century. Hamilton’s and Gore’s innings included 3 fours and a six each. Bowling for the Harpy Eagles, Romario Shepherd once again led the wickets column. He picked up 2-45 from nine overs while skipper Veerasammy Permaul got 2-40.
In reply, the Harpy Eagles lost Tagenarine Chanderpaul very early for 1 as they once again got off to a slow start. A cameo 32 off 28 from wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach ensured the Eagles got past 60 within the Powerplay to gain a bonus point. They then lost Imlach, Kemol Savory (26) and Shimron Hetmyer (4) in quick succession to slump to 77-4 in the 19th over. Kevin Sinclair (12) and Kevlon Anderson (32) helped steady the innings and take the score to 108 before Sinclair was stumped off the bowling of Walsh. Rutherford joined Anderson and together they posted 67 for the 6th wicket. When Anderson was dismissed, the Harpy eagles were still needing 70 to win with just 4 wickets in hand. However, Romario Shepherd proved to be a good partner for Rutherford who brought up his maiden List A ton off of 69 balls. Together, they posted an unbeaten 73-run 7th wicket partnership to lead the Harpy Eagles to a 4 wicket victory. Kofi James finished with figures of 3-30 while Alzarri Joseph, Rahkeem Cornwall and Walsh each picked up 1 wicket.
